Strategic Plan
Explore the essential role of ethical trapping in conservation and community heritage.
Strategic Overview
The U.P. Trappers Association (UPTA) works collaboratively with wildlife professionals, educators, land managers, and community partners to advance responsible trapping, science-based wildlife management, and public understanding of trapping’s role in conservation. Through education, advocacy, and partnership, UPTA promotes ethical trapping practices while preserving the cultural heritage and outdoor traditions of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.
By building strong partnerships across the region and beyond, UPTA inspires stewardship, responsibility, and respect for wildlife, wild places, and the people who depend on them.
Our Vision
At U.P. Trappers Associaiton, we envision a world where ethical trapping is not only understood but embraced as a crucial element of wildlife management. Our mission is to foster a community that values conservation through informed public engagement, active youth participation, and robust partnerships with conservation organizations. We aim to inspire a sense of stewardship and responsibility towards our natural heritage, ensuring that trapping is practiced with the highest ethical standards and respect for the environment.
STRATEGIC PROCESS
The U.P. Trappers Association developed this strategic plan through a collaborative and intentional process. A strategic planning committee guided the effort, beginning with the development of open-ended questions designed to capture multiple perspectives on UPTA’s mission, values, and future direction.
Interviews and discussions were conducted with trappers, educators, conservation partners, wildlife professionals, and community stakeholders. These conversations provided insight into the Association’s strengths, challenges, and opportunities. The resulting feedback was analyzed and synthesized into a strategic framework that reflects shared values and provides clear direction for UPTA’s future work in education, conservation, and organizational sustainability.
